Will Smith has been 100 percent committed to achieving his health and fitness goals this year, ever since he announced in May that he wanted to lose weight and get ripped again after acquiring a dad bod during the pandemic. Of course, even the most hardworking among us can flag when it comes to being consistent in our training, but the actor and producer has just found a powerful new source of motivation: spite.
A new video posted to his Instagram account shows Smith in his statement Bel-Air Athletics workout clothes, walking laps around a gym in an attempt to log 10,000 steps on his Fitbit—not necessarily because that’s what most fitness trackers recommend as a good daily goal (although it is), but rather, to prove a point.
“My friend Aaron doesn’t think I can walk 10,000 steps a day,” says the text-to-speech voiceover on the video. “Now, I gotta get to 20,000 steps on my Fitbit to make sure Aaron doesn’t walk again. Damn, that sounded cold-blooded. I didn’t mean to make it sound like I was gonna break his legs. But the way he’s jawing at me definitely means I’m gonna outwalk this joka. Not because it’s good for me, but to prove Aaron wrong. Yeah I’m petty like that!”
The caption for the video reads “Y’all tell Fitbit to sponsor me yet??”
Smith has shared a number of other funny outtakes from his workouts on social media throughout his journey, from a video spoofing how it feels when the pre-workout kicks in, to a montage of himself forgetting how to use different pieces of equipment after being away from the gym for so long. What we haven’t seen yet is the progress that Smith is making in his training: presumably he and his team are holding onto that footage for the YouTube series which will eventually document his transformation.
