We Finally Know the (Beautiful!) Name of Joe Jonas & Sophie Turner’s Baby Daughter

Amid all the upsetting details of Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner’s messy divorce, we did learn some special news! More than a year after their second daughter’s birth, her name has been revealed per custody filings obtained by Page Six. It’s a beautiful name that we’re surprised is so rare: Delphine! The name — pronounced “del-feen” — has Greek origins and means “dolphin.” Perhaps it’s a nod to their home in Miami, Florida, and the city’s NFL team, the Miami Dolphins.

The name has reportedly never made it to the top 1000 names list and, per MomJunction, only 41 babies per million were given the moniker in 2021.

Their oldest daughter, who was born in 2020, is named Willa. The name has multiple origins and meanings, including “desired,” “resolute,” and “firm defender.”

The estranged couple’s custody battle is already contentious. Last week, Turner sued Jonas, requesting the “immediate return” of their kids from New York City to their “habitual residence in England.” Jonas allegedly withheld his daughters’ passports so they couldn’t fly to the U.K., and documents say they are currently with Turner in the Southern District of New York.

According to insiders, the girls had been with Jonas because the Game of Thrones alum was shooting a new series. “She has been shooting which is why the kids have been with [the singer],” a source told people. “It’s just been easier because she’s been working for the kids to be with him because there’s some more support at home and on the [Jonas Brothers tour] with his family. It’s something they both agreed was best.”

The New York/England drama isn’t only being addressed by New York courts. The state of Florida has also gotten involved because of the parents’ Miami home and because Jonas reportedly filed for divorce in the Sunshine State. As such, a Florida judge has ordered Jonas and Turner to attend a four-hour parenting course and said they can’t relocate their kids without the other’s permission.

The course is designed to “educate, train, and assist divorcing parents in regards to the impact of divorce on parents and children,” according to the Florida Department of Children and Families. We hope that for Delphine (still can’t get over that name!) and Willa’s sake, the course can help the family get through this process (and beyond) as smoothly and pain-free as possible.
