Elyse Taylor On Modelling, Motherhood And Making Strength A Priority

She’s an internationally recognised supermodel and single mum to 4-year-old Lila – so how does Elyse Taylor do it all and look so damn good at the same time?!

We spoke to the Aussie babe about her go-to beauty buys, favourite fitness routine and how becoming a mum has changed her life.

In your industry, you spend a lot of time getting your hair and makeup done, what’s the best piece of advice you’ve heard from a makeup artist or hair stylist?

Always clean your skin, take care of it and make sure you’re not sleeping with your makeup on. I always try to use natural makeup… it’s important to me to wear makeup that is essentially good for my skin.

What beauty products do you always have in your travel bag?

I’ve always got my Nude By Nature Touch of Glow highlight stick, the Glossier solution and my hairbrush, usually in my carry-on. I’ve also been using the Pantene Pro V foam conditioner for the past few months and I’ve really been loving it. It’s got a light foam rather than a heavy cream, so it doesn’t weight my hair down.

What does your weekly workout routine look like?

It depends where I am and what I’m doing… I like to swim, or do an hour or so of cardio, and then two 30 minutes of floor/mat routine. And I do that maybe 4 to 5 times a week.

What does your average day on a plate look like?

That’s always constantly changing. It depends if I’m travelling or at home again, especially if I’m with my daughter Lila. I try to have an egg white omelette and mushrooms, maybe with a little goat cheese if I’m at home for breakfast. Then I’ll have some protein, so chicken or fish and some veggies. And probably a smaller portion [of that] for dinner. I have one cheat day during the week which is usually a lot of carbs!

How has your approach to health and fitness changed since becoming a mum?

It’s definitely changed a lot since having Lila. I really wanted to become stronger, mentally and physically, just to keep up with Lila. My body’s also changed a lot after having a baby so I need to get back and try different things – I couldn’t just rely on what I did before I had Lila.

How have you juggled maintaining a work life balance with motherhood?

I’ve been trying to value the quality of the work over the quantity, and really keep my key relationships. I try to balance my time on the road to when I’m home again… I was just in Australia last week so now this week I’ve spent the majority of my time just at home [in New York] with Lila, and making sure she feels settled.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to your daughter as she grows up?

Not so much advice more so just to support her as much as I can, with her interests and with her life. Really just educating her and always supporting her, and trying to guide her as much as I can.
