Eddie Hall, former World’s Strongest Man winner, is always tackling new fitness challenges. He recently attempted gymnastics and even shimmied through tunnels in an obstacle course. Now, he’s stepping outside his comfort zone and plans to take on CrossFit.
In a new Instagram post, Hall explains he’s training to complete Grace, a benchmark CrossFit workout, in the fastest time ever. If you’re not familiar with the routine, men must complete 30 clean and jerks using 135 pounds in the quickest time possible. CrossFit estimates that if everyday people want to complete the workout in under five minutes, they may need to reduce the weight.
“Training for a crossfit [sic] world record GRACE… I’ll be attempting it at the crossfit [sic] European championships in Colchester on the 23rd Feb,” Hall writes in his post.
Hall will attempt this feat at The European Championships 2020, which are set to take place February 22 and 23 in Colchester, England. Hall also will participate in a meet and greet with fans at the event, according to organizers.
The strongman’s latest stunt definitely surprised his fans, who let loose in his Instagram comments.
“This has to be a joke right? I can’t see you doing cross fit [sic],” one person wrote. Another commenter chimed in, “Oh no Eddie please don’t go there.”
And for the ultimate zinger, one person replied, “he [Hall] just wants to embarrass all of them with proper form.”
One common criticism of CrossFit is that proper form is often lost due to the sport’s emphasis on finishing heavy lifts as quickly as possible. However, the official CrossFit website notes that people who are unfamiliar with the Olympic style lifts should learn proper form first, so that they can finish workouts safely.
Although there is no official world record for the shortest amount of time an athlete has performed Grace, CrossFit athlete Nick Bloch performed the workout in only 59 seconds, according to Barbend.
