Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is known for his almost fanatical devotion to diet and exercise. While filming Jungle Cruise and Hobbs & Shaw, he had his gym—all 50,000 pounds of it—hauled into the Hawaiian jungle. He’s got a constellation of what he calls his “Iron Paradise” gyms, including one built on Civil War land, with ghosts that he suggests give you a better workout. He drinks four gallons of water a day and his cheat meals resemble a sushi platter intended to feed a large family.
Suffice it to say, The Rock has a very idiosyncratic approach to life. So what would it mean for a normal human to try to step into his shoes, even for just one day? YouTuber MattDoesFitness—who previously tried Arnold Schwarzenegger’s training regimen—decided to find out. And the results were….interesting.

He started with a four AM run, just like The Rock. He didn’t finish the 30- to 50-minute session before declaring that he hated his life, but he at least got a taste of what The Rock is cooking every morning. Then he moved on to what The Rock literally cooks: breakfast, the first meal of seven, daily. Fish, oats, and a pair of eggs—it’s a dense meal, and he struggles to finish it.
Despite a stomach alarmingly full of protein, he next hits the gym, running through The Rock’s workout. He finishes, but declares it “ten times too much volume.” Talking about how his form nosedived in the later sets, he say, “In my opinion you are much better going for quality over quantity.” And then, according to The Rock, it’s time to eat again.
The easy lesson here is that The Rock’s workout is not for everyone. But if you want to see a relatively normal guy give it a shot, check out the video below:
