What is free Slurpee day
Every year on July 11th — aka, 7-Eleven — the Slurpee mecca celebrates its iconic slushy beverage (and birthday) by offering free Slurpees to customers between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. local time.

Despite only costing less than four dollars a pop — with a small Slurpee less than one dollar — customers and Slurpee connoisseurs look forward to the celebration every year. “Free Slurpee day may be the most anticipated day of the year for millions of 7-Eleven customers and new customers alike,” said Raj Kapoor, Senior vice president for fresh food in beverages at 7-Eleven.
This year, the convenience store is celebrating its 91st birthday. As a gift to customers, 7-Eleven will give out an estimated nine million free Slurpees across 66,000 locations around the world. That includes the 11,800 stores in the United States and Canada combined.
7-Eleven has celebrated free Slurpee day since July 11, 2002.
The history of the 7-Eleven Slurpee
7-Eleven has been around for almost a century — but Slurpees weren’t always its most popular item. In fact, they didn’t exist until 1966 when 7-Eleven signed a licensing deal with its slushy cousin, ICEE. However, the agreement clearly stated 7-Eleven’s ICEE must be re-named. 7-Eleven ad agency director Bob Stanford came up with “Slurpee,” and the rest is history.
Today, 7-Eleven Slurpees have a cult-following with some of its biggest fans in Canada, with around 30 million Slurpees sold every year. Canadian province, Manitoba also holds the title of Slurpee Capital of the World.
The United States are also big Slurpee fans. However, our Slurpee ingredients look a bit different than our neighbors in the North. In America, 7-Eleven Slurpees have yucca extract. The yucca extract gives the brain-freezing beverage its light, airy texture.

5. Lemonade
Who can go wrong with some iced lemon action? The lemonade Slurpee is one of the best flavors, as it offers a refreshing taste without getting too crazy. If you want to try it in a flavor combination, mix the lemonade with the cotton candy flavor, and you won’t be sorry.
4. Dr. Pepper
Those who prefer soda over berry flavors can also join in one the free Slurpee day fun. And, if you prefer Dr. Pepper over Coca-Cola, don’t worry — there’s a refreshing flavor for you. For one of the best Slurpee flavor combinations, mix Dr. Pepper with wild cherry.
3. Coca-Cola
Not a fan of Dr. Pepper but still want to sip on a frozen soda? Worry not — 7-Eleven also has a Coca-Cola flavor. Similar to Dr. Pepper, mix the soda with wild cherry for an iconic combination.
2. Blue raspberry
Another must-try Slurpee flavor to try on July 11th (or any other day of the year)? Blue raspberry. While the color might look alarming to health-conscious customers, the flavor is similar to the iconic ICEE that gave the 7-Eleven Slurpee its start. Mix blue raspberry with lemonade for a tangy flavor combination.
1. Wild cherry
Does it get any more iconic than a wild cherry Slurpee? We think not. Not only does wild cherry mix well with all top flavors — blue raspberry, Coca-Cola, Dr. Pepper, and lemonade — it’s fantastic on its own. This free Slurpee day, celebrate 91 years of 7-Eleven with a wild cherry flavored brain freeze.
