From thigh gaps to bikini bridges, a number of problematic body shape trends have increased in popularity of late. But the newest movement to blow up on social media is, fortunately, a positive one.
The “hip dips” hashtag is celebrating the distinctive curve between the outer upper thigh and hip bone that many of us have.

Apparently #hipdips are like. A thing at the moment. I legit just accepted (as like, a child/teenager) that my hips were this shape because that's how my bones grow. It never occurred to me to think my hips were weird? Wtf is with the beauty industry making people think this isn't normal? I'm so confused!
Thousands have taken to social media to share images of their “hip dips”, with messages embracing the natural and normal body part that so many women feel self conscious about.
“I used to effing HATE my hips. SO much,” one Instagrammer wrote. “No matter how much I dieted or went to the gym they would never go away! I have only recently learned to embrace them and realised it’s the structure of my body and that’s not going to change. Love your body, embrace your flaws. Focus on being healthy, whatever what means to you.”
So…heres the thing….I've had a lot of issues around my body, and because I'm not large, I've always been dismissed, as if my struggles aren't real because they aren't the same struggles as others. I used to workout because I wanted to look better. I hated that I had #hipdips or saddlebags as the older generation called them, and that I had cellulite on my rear end. I now absolutely LOVE how strong my body is, even when my stomach isn't flat and I have a double bum. I LOVE how I actually grew 2 entire human beings and they are turning into little actual people, who will be real adults later. From my vagina. That's what I did. I LOVE that I'm strong enough to pickup my husband and piggy back him around the house. I LOVE MY HIPDIPS AND MY CELLULITE AND MY FRECKLES AND MY WRINKLES AND SAGGY MOM TUMMY AND MY CROOKED TEETH AND MY "PROBLEM SKIN". I love everything that I used to hate. Because not a single person in this world, is just like me and I'm fucking awesome. So are you. You are awesome. And beautiful. I love you. I hope you love you too!! #bodyacceptance #selflove #yogalove #yogalife #tattoos #tattooedyogi #strength #happiness #energy #meditation #fityogi #gratitude #goodvibes #goodvibesonly #blessed #yycyoga #practiceandalliscoming #fitnessmodel #jainawear #yogapants #girlswholift #love #yogaleggings #activewear #fitnesswear #fitness #fitlife #inversionjunkie
*Vulnerable post coming up* I've struggled with comparing myself to other women my entire life, and after starting my fitness journey it's no different. I will never have the "perfect" body according to society. But.. I'm learning to love the body I have! Big as heck quads and hip dips! That's not gonna change, might as well embrace it. ❤️ . . . . . . . . . . . . #fitness #girlswholift #khfit #khfitfam #bodybuilding #legday #hipdips #girlswhosquat #liftheavy #fitspo #builtnotbought #gains #thickthighs #bodypositive #loveyourself #curves #progress #legs #workout #workoutmotivation
We couldn’t be happier to see this body-positive movement take off.
