Are you friendly, self-assured and generally optimistic? Then congrats friend, coz as far as this new study is concerned, your personality is pretty darn desirable.
A team of researchers from the University of California, Davis, consulted over 200 psychologists and collected data from more than 3,000 people to identify what basic traits make someone psychologically well-adjusted. Their work was based on the ‘big five:’ neuroticism, extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness and conscientiousness. They also used a personality system called the Revised NEO Personality Inventory, which outlines 30 subcategories of traits listed above.
Their findings?
Those considered to have the ‘healthiest’ personalities showed high-levels of self-esteem, optimism, a clear self-view and good self-regulation skills. They also demonstrated they were non-aggressive, unlikely to exploit others, self-sufficient and found it easy to resist impulses and stay focussed.
“The psychologically healthy person can be characterised as capable to experience and express emotions, straightforward, warm, friendly, genuine, confident in their own abilities, emotionally stable and fairly resilient to stress,” the study’s lead author, Weibke Blieidorn added.
