The ‘It Girl’ ponytail is latest trend in up-dos and it’s going to become a saviour for making ourselves presentable post-sweaty-F45-sesh. Because let’s be honest, there’s only so much dry shampoo can do. We spoke to Lea-Ann Suthern of TONI&GUY Newtown to find out how to achieve the on-trend look.
What is the inspiration behind this kind of hairstyle?
The ponytail has been around since the beginning, a staple hairstyle if your hair is long enough to go up. With this super high style, we have seen this trend coming through in the last few months with the likes of Bella Hadid and Kim Kardashian sporting the style. Ariana Grande on the other hand has been rocking the style for a few years – so I guess we could credit her with bringing it back!
What products/equipment do you need to recreate it?
You definitely need a heavy duty band, such as a bungee, this will allow you to tightly hold the hair in place without the risk of your elastic snapping as you are trying to wrap it around that last time. You can also finish off with a hair spray or the Label.m Wax Spray.
What are the steps to creating it?
Step one is to make sure your hair is not too clean, this will make it harder to handle, so after the gym is perfect! As the pony tail needs to be at the top of your head you need to flip your head upside down – brushing right from the scalp to the ends of your hair.
Once the hair is up you can then focus on the ponytail itself, it is much easier to straighten with an iron or add curl when the hair is in place.
Do you think this would make a good post-gym hairstyle?
Yes definitely, up dos, even something as simple as a ponytail are always easier with hair that is slightly dirty. Also a the ponytail can be slightly messy it’s a low maintenance style.
