Vanessa Williams, 58, has a lot on her plate. Between Broadway gigs, television voice work, and designing a clothing line, it’s hard to imagine how she also stays so fit—until now.
In a brand new photo on Instagram, Vanessa showed off her super-strong bod in a white bikini while striking a pose on the sand. “Are we doing bikini shots in our early 50s? Ok 🌊,” she captioned the post.
Vanessa’s friends and fans went wild in the comments section. “YES MAAAAAAAMMMMMM,” writer and director Janet Mock wrote. “Yes. We. Are,” one fan added, while another commented “go Vanessa🔥🔥🔥🙌❤️.”
And Vanessa knows what the people want, since she tagged the designer of her show-stopping bikini in the photo: ViX Paula Hermanny.

So, what’s Vanessa’s secret to staying so freakin’ toned? Well, she commented back in 2014 that her golden rule is “staying active” daily, per ABC News. “I try to do something everyday, whether it’s taking a class or jumping on the treadmill,” she said. “Also, yoga, just trying to keep moving for sure.”
In 2010, she mentioned that Pilates was her favorite workout. “I was doing Pilates before people even knew how to spell Pilates,” she said in Prevention magazine, per Popsugar. “I started with [trainer] Mari Winsor after my first child, 22 years ago. She used to come backstage and do a mat floor workout with me when I was doing Kiss of the Spider Woman on Broadway.”
“Core strength balances your entire body,” Vanessa added. “It pulls your shoulders back, tucks in your pelvis, makes you walk straighter, and gives you great posture.”
Sometimes, she gets her daily steps in the fresh air. “I walk outside. It makes you feel alive,” she said. “I live in a wooded, hilly area, so it’s great to be able to go outside on a gorgeous day and see the neighborhood. Bring a couple of dogs with you and it turns into an adventure.”
When she wants to look her best on the red carpet, Vanessa says she cuts sugar, carbs, and alcohol out of her diet, per ABC News. She also likes to stay hydrated. Her favorite drinks include “juicing, hot water, and lemon—those are all great cleansers to keep you hydrated.”
And when she feels like indulging her cravings, Vanessa reaches for a spoon and digs into a pint of ice cream (don’t we all?). Her go-to flavors are “soft serve dipped in chocolate from Carvel or Chunky Monkey from Ben & Jerry’s,” she told Shape in 2012. You had me at soft serve!
