It’s been a whirlwind week for Duchess Meghan, who welcomed her first child, a son named Archie, with husband Prince Harry on Monday, May 6, but the little one’s arrival came just in time for Mother’s Day 2019.
The Suits alum, 37, posed with the newborn on Sunday, May 12, and shared a heartfelt message on her and Harry’s official Instagram page in celebration of the special day.
“Paying tribute to all mothers today — past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered. We honor and celebrate each and every one of you,” the royals captioned a picture that showed Meghan tenderly touching her son’s tiny feet. “Today is Mother’s Day in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya, Japan, and several countries across Europe. This is the first Mother’s Day for The Duchess of Sussex.”
Added the new parents: “Quote from ‘lands’: my mother was my first country; the first place i ever lived.”
In the photo, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave a subtle — but heartwarming — nod to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana. Meghan and Archie stood in front of a wall of forget-me-nots, Diana’s favorite flower. (Diana died in August 1997 at age 36 after a tragic car accident.)
Meghan and the former military pilot, 34, announced the news of their first child’s arrival in an Instagram post on Monday, with the proud dad speaking to media hours after Archie’s birth.
“Meghan and myself had a baby boy early this morning — a very healthy boy,” the Duke of Sussex gushed. “Mother and baby are doing incredibly well. This has been the most amazing experience I could possibly imagine. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension. But we are both absolutely thrilled and so grateful for all the love and support from everyone out there. It’s been amazing. So we just wanted to share this with everybody.”
Harry added: “I haven’t been in many births. This is definitely my first birth. It was amazing, absolutely incredible. As I said, I am so incredibly proud of my wife and as every father and parent would ever say, your baby is absolutely amazing, but this little thing is absolutely to die for, so I’m just over the moon.”
The pair — who wed in May 2018 — introduced the world to their child and announced his name on Wednesday, May 8.
“Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor,” the new parents wrote alongside an Instagram photo that showed them with Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip and Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland. “This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and the duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.”
