Royals: They really are just like us. The former Meghan Markle, now Duchess of Sussex, is getting help with her new baby from someone who’s been there, done that — her own mother. Grandma Doria Ragland has been a “big help” to the new parents, according US Weekly.
The royals welcomed their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on May 6 of this year and since then, Ragland has been a strong presence in their lives. The pair are raising the baby in the countryside Frogmore Cottage home, away from the hustle and bustle of Kensington Palace. There was speculation that Ragland would make a move across the pond from her home in Los Angeles to live with the Royals in England. For now it seems that she has been a doting grandma, helping her daughter and son-in-law through all the “firsts” they’re experiencing as parents.
And it’s an exciting time to be around, as babies Archie’s age begin to enjoy lots of tummy time, finger and fist sucking and of course sleeping on and off most of the day! Two-month-old babies also begin to respond to familiar voices, and there’s no doubt that Ragland loves being heard by her grandson.
In April, Ragland flew from Los Angeles to London so she could be present for Baby Sussex’s birth, who is her first grandchild, and has been around for her daughter and her new family in the days that followed. With the help of her own mom, Meghan has been adjusting well to motherhood, taking things one step at a time, including getting back to her pre-baby body on her own timeline. She and Prince Harry recently stepped out for the premiere of The Lion King together, and she was still glowing.
It’s no doubt important for Meghan to have her mother in her corner, especially given her rocky relationship with her father. Ragland was the only member of Meghan’s family present at the royal wedding and she has since been welcomed by the royal family, so it’s no surprise to see her present with the new family of three.
No matter where grandma lives, it’s clear that Meghan and her mom are extremely close — and with 10 bedrooms to choose from at Frogmore, there will always be a place for Archie’s granny to lay her head!
