Despite the amount of flak she cops, Sarah Stage continues to candidly share her health and fitness journey with over 2.4 million Instagram followers.
In her latest post, the mum-of-two (who gave birth to her second son six weeks ago) revealed that complications with her caesarean scar have stopped her from hitting the gym.
“I was planning to start weight training/exercising but the other day the area above my incision started hurting again and was swelling there,” she wrote alongside a selfie.
“So after a long visit to the ER, several blood tests and a scan (which all came back negative for anything serious… I’m going to just stick to my Nutrition Guide meal plan and let my body heal longer by resting and cuddling.”
The 33-year-old admitted that she was torn over whether to share this update with her fans, but decided that she should be honest about her post-birth recovery.
“If you’re having post baby issues/ health issues OR maybe you’re just having a challenging day, know that you’re not alone and we each have a choice. To either be upset or make the best out of the situation. With a positive attitude we can get through anything.”
While exercise is encouraged for a healthy mum and bub, standard medical practice is to recommend waiting six weeks after a vaginal birth and eight weeks after a caesarean. However, mums should never feel pressure to “bounce back” and should always get their doctor’s go ahead before returning to rigorous exercise.
Every body is different and one genetically blessed individual’s experience shouldn’t impact how you feel about yours.
