Many people living with a chronic inflammatory condition like ulcerative colitis (UC) find they must learn how to speak up about the impact of the condition on their lives, both physically and emotionally, to get needed support. This was the case for five people from around the world with UC – Effie, Genya, Jacklyn, Kristy and Sidi – who share their inspiring stories in the “In My Words: Life with Ulcerative Colitis” video series from Pfizer and Courageous Studios, CNN’s content studio.

Through the highs and lows of their UC journeys, these five individuals became empowered to advocate for themselves with support from their family members, friends and healthcare teams.

Although each has a unique perspective on living with UC, they bring a shared understanding about the importance of building a strong support system and speaking up with a healthcare team about disease management goals.
