Rob Gronkowski Got Lit Up by the Tampa Bay Lightning While Trying to Play Goalie

Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski is known for a lot of things. There are the four Super Bowl rings, of course. And after retiring from professional football, the former New England Patriots tight end found time to compete on The Masked Singer, consider a stint wrestling with the WWE, and lead Instagram workouts for lockdown-weary fans who needed motivation to stay in shape during pandemic times. Then he returned to the NFL, reunited with his old QB Tom Brady at Tampa Bay, and went on to win another Super Bowl title.

That’s an impressive list, fitting for a man who’s always had an outsized personality. (We almost forgot to mention that time he shared workout tips with pro gamer ‘Tfue.’) But there are still some things Gronk hasn’t made a name in—hockey being one of them. So on his family YouTube channel, Gronkowski set out to remedy that. Of course, being who he is, he didn’t just tentatively step out onto the ice. He dove right in with the Tampa Bay Lightning, reigning Stanley Cup champs.

The video opens with a masked Gronkowski congratulating the Lightning on their big win, sharing his Lombardi trophy with the team. After some ribbing, he and his brothers suit up and head out on the ice. The 6’4”, 32-year-old Gronk actually looks pretty comfortable in skates, as he takes some shots on goal—he looks even more at home as an enforcer, checking Lightning captain Steven Stamkos into the boards and tussling, as always, with his fellow Gronks.

After taking some shots against all-star goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy, Gronk even puts on some pads to take his turn in the goal. He’s probably not going to turn a hockey pro overnight, but if nothing else, Gronkowski looks like he’s having a good time, as Gronk does.
