Fever and chronic back pain are warning signs your body sends out in distress. Here are more

Most of us are less likely to seek medical attention thinking that any nagging problem will settle on its own. However, if you wait too long, these may result in serious complications.

We are not suggesting that every time you have mild headache or a stuffy nose, you run to a doctor. However, if you spot any of these 6 signs, it is time to pay a visit to your doctor.

Your muscles are sore for more than a week

If you’ve recently done some heavy physical activity, then soreness of muscles is normal. And it will settle on its own. However, if you’ve been feeling soreness for more than a week, it could be an indication of something more serious. Although very rare, intense exercise may cause rhabdomyolysis, which if left untreated can cause permanent kidney damage.

You have chronic lower back pain

While most often than not lower back pain settles on its own with some rest. However, if the pain is so bad that you can’t even rest, then it’s time to visit a doctor and get it checked. And if the pain lingers for beyond 6 weeks(even after painkillers), it is best to get another opinion. Pain or tingling down one leg or other can indicate a slipped or herniated disk.

You have a fever over 102 degrees

Low grade fever (up to 101 degrees) are typically symptoms of viral infections. However, if you fever is more than 102 degrees then it will require a course of antibiotics to clear up. The reason could be bacterial infection. Another sign of bacterial infection versus viral is if fever is accompanied with another symptom – sore throat, pain etc.

You have intense, abnormal headaches

Most headaches or migraines are not life threatening. However, if you feel pain like you’ve never felt before or it is at a location that you typically don’t feel pain in, then it’s time to pay a visit to your doctor. Another big red flag is a headache that comes accompanied with a rash. It could be a sign of meningitis.

You have sharp, shooting stomach pain

It’s best to get any kind of stomach related pain checked before waiting for too long. Unless you know that it is because of indigestion, don’t ignore it. Sharp pain that starts in the middle of the stomach and moves to the right lower quadrant can be because of appendicitis.

You can’t sleep

See your doctor if you can’t sleep for more than two weeks. Trouble falling asleep could be a sign of anxiety, and waking up early in the morning is often a sign of depression. Sleep deprivation can affect your functioning, so don’t wait for too long before getting it checked.
