UPDATE: February 11, 2019 at 4:10 p.m.
In January, news leaked of McDonald’s plans for their limited-release Donut Sticks, and now they’re officially here. After Business Insider reported on the “internal documents” detailing the breakfast addition, the fast food super chain declined to comment. However, they did give a subtle hint, admitting that customers could look forward to “more delicious and craveable news to come in 2019.” Well, here it is.
Now, I’m sure these donut sticks are delicious, but they look hella strange, right? Like, fingers? Or fish sticks? Or, um, veiny penises? I honestly can’t tell.
According to CNN Business, McDonald’s breakfast sales have continued to fall, and their latest move comes in an effort to up sales. The Donut Sticks are listed on the site as “sweet golden-brown dough, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, and made fresh every morning” and are available at participating locations. Well, they certainly sound a lot better than they look!
Although Micky-D’s has made the switch to all day breakfast (life saving!!!), their latest release will only be available during morning hours. The company also really, really wants you to buy a McCafé coffee with them, advertising the slogan “a little sweet to go with your coffee.” Honestly, sounds good to me.
McDonald’s reportedly tested the menu item at several Illinois locations earlier this year and has revamped the recipe as a result, CNN Business continues. They’ll officially land in stores February 20, but won’t last. They’re currently listed as limited-time, so get ’em while you can. After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

McDonald’s plans to release “Donut Sticks” in February, Business Insider reports. The site obtained internal documents from McDonald’s that seemingly confirm the forthcoming breakfast menu item.
The donut sticks—which not-so-subtly sound like Dunkin’s new-ish mega-hit, Donut Fries—are described in the document as “strips of sweetened dough that are deep fried until golden brown, then sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.” Per the documents, they’ll only be served during breakfast hours.
The Donut Sticks will also seemingly be available in half-dozen and full dozen packs nationwide next month. The six-pack will come in around $1.29; A full order of 12 will be $2.39. There will also be the option to bundle a six-pack with a small coffee—that’ll cost $1.99, which is comparable to Dunkin’s $2 price.
This leak comes months after McDonald’s CEO Steve Easterbrook told investors the chain wanted to “do better at breakfast” and “reenergize” McDonald’s’ customers when it came to the breakfast menu. Delish reached out to McDonald’s for confirmation of the reported item and received the following statement in response:
Hm. See you all at McD’s come February for a Donut Stick party.
