Savagely tearing into your fast food to-go bag, you hardly notice how messy and disheveled your order actually is because you’re that hungry. Half your order of fries are sitting at the bottom of the bag, and your burgers are basically grey and haphazardly thrown together. This might be done out of hastiness, but now at Burger King, they plan to intentionally do the latter to its Whopper as part of its Stranger Things Upside-Down Whopper promotion.
With Season 3 of Stranger Things rapidly approaching — it’ll hit Netflix on July 4 — Burger King has partnered with Coca-Cola and the Netflix show to offer Upside-Down Whoppers, and it’s exactly what it sounds like. The bottom bun and top bun are swapped; the rest of the sandwich hasn’t changed one bit. The most exciting aspect of this sandwich isn’t even edible — it’s Burger King’s 1980’s-era packaging with which the burger’s wrapped. They’re also tossing in limited-edition ketchup packets into the bags.
This Burger King promotion doesn’t start and end with its menu, though. The commitment spills onto its Twitter page where the fast-food chain changed its name to Stranger King, and its logo is now an ’80s upside-down burger.
The Stranger Things burger won’t be sold nationwide, either. Starting June 21, certain Burger Kings in Miami, Houston, Boston, Atlanta, Dallas, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles will sell the unremarkable burger served in nostalgic packaging. The select restaurants will also sell Stranger Things-inspired T-shirts.
As part of the promotion, Burger King is also selling a Whopper meal for $5 and offering free DoorDash delivery (on orders that meet the $10 minimum). To get your Whopper meal delivered for free, use the code STRANGER on either the DoorDash app or website.
