Beyond Meat Is Reportedly Working on Fake Bacon & Steak

As fast food joints and restaurants rapidly adjust their respective menus to keep up with meatless demand and incorporate more vegan-friendly dishes, producers of plant-based meat substitutes, like Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat, continue to create improved and new meatless products. For Beyond Meat, specifically, that includes bacon and steak.

The addition of fake bacon and steak is all part of the company’s long-term innovation efforts, according to CNN Business. The publication recently interviewed Beyond Meat’s CEO, Ethan Brown, who said that the two items are still in development with no specific launch date in sight. In fact, he says, they would need a “surprise breakthrough” for the product to hit the market anytime soon.

Reports of Beyond Meat’s possible bacon and steak alternatives follows the producer’s partnership with Dunkin’ to sell breakfast sandwiches with Beyond Meat sausage in Manhattan. Outside of the U.S., however, doughnut shop Tim Hortons serves Beyond Meat’s sausages on breakfast sandwiches in almost 4,000 of its locations.

Plus, CNN also reported that demand for Beyond Meat’s product skyrocketed this year, with a 215 percent increase in sales in the first quarter compared to the same period last year. On top of that — and the fact that Beyond Meat’s plant-based burgers, faux ground beef and sausages are sold in more than 30,000 supermarkets, restaurants and other venues around the world — the company’s stock increased almost 700 percent since its initial public offering in May, according to Bloomberg.

So to say Beyond Meat has had a great year would be an understatement, and we can’t wait to set our eyes on — and taste — whatever they release next.
