10 family movies to watch this Halloween

Here are some interesting movies for kids to watch on Halloween eve to enjoy some sweet, scary (or both) tales.

Halloween 2018 is round the corner and it’s time again to dress up as a ghoul and carve the pumpkins. Celebrated in major parts of the world and now popular in India too, it has a lot of children excited. The love for horror stories, movies and innovative costumes can be enjoyed to the hilt this time of the year. Here are some interesting movies for kids to watch on Halloween eve to enjoy some sweet, scary (or both) tales.

The Dog Who Saved Halloween

Zeus, the adorable talking dog, turns saviour for the family in his 2011 outing. George and Belinda, along with their kids, moved to a new apartment and everything was going according to plan. However, they noticed some strange lights and sounds coming from their neighbor Mr Cole’s house. There’s something fishy going on. The story takes a sinister turn when a black cat goes missing. It’s then that Zeus ultimately saves people trapped inside the haunted house.

Casper

In this 1995 film, Casper, the friendly little ghost, resides in a mansion. When Carrigan Crittenden hires a paranormal expert, Harvey, to get the ghost out of the mansion, the story becomes interesting. His little daughter befriends Casper and what happens next is fun to watch.

Halloweentown

A 1998 Disney movie series, Halloweentown is full of werewolves, vampires, ghosts, Pumpkin Heads, goblins and skeletons that travel from the mortal world to Halloweentown. The story revolves around the family of Cromwell-Piper. When Gwen Cromwell marries a mortal, she leaves Halloweentown and later becomes a widow. However, she chooses a magic-free upbringing for her children and wishes to keep her kids away from Halloweentown. But how long can she keep it that way?

Matilda

The 1996 film based on Roald Dahl’s book centres around Matilda, a little girl, who is disliked by her own family. She possesses telekinetic powers which she uses against her principal, who tortured Matilda’s favourite teacher. This is among the best family movies to watch.

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

This 1966 film is an evergreen classic. The Peanut gang gets geared up for the Halloween party. Linus and Lucy also prepare for trick or treating. While most children were disguised as ghosts and spirits, Linus waits patiently in the pumpkin patch for the arrival of the Great Pumpkin. As a result, he misses the trick or treating party where other kids get the goodies.

Monsters v/s Aliens

A meteorite hits Susan Murphy on her wedding day, turning her into a giant, in this 3D animated movie from 2009. She becomes a part of the monster team, which includes Dr Cockroach, half-man half-cockroach and B.O.B, a living, breathing mass of blue goo. Their job is to save Earth from the machinations of evil alien Gallaxhar, who aims at bringing misery to the planet.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

In this 1993 musical fantasy, Jack Skellington, a resident of Halloween Town, comes across Christmas Town and is enchanted by its beauty and festivities. His obsession prompts him to abduct Santa Claus and leads to a series of unusual events.

Room on the Broom

The 2012 computer animated short film, Room on the Broom, is based on illustrations from the much loved picture book of the same name by children’s author Julia Donaldson. A witch invites many animals to hop onto her broom for a flight, to the reluctance of her cat, who’s upset by the over-crowding. As the movie progresses, the witch is threatened by a dragon. It’s left to her companions to rescue her.

Monster House

This 2006 animated movie is about the journey of three kids who discover that a house in their neighbourhood is actually a monster. It’s then that they make a pact to destroy the heart of the house.

Hotel Transylvania

In this 2012 animated comedy, Hotel Transylvania is a lavish motel owned by Dracula, meant exclusively for monsters and their families. However, one human, Jonathan, manages to get in. A fearful Dracula tries to prevent his daughter from falling in love with Jonathan.
