And the Most Popular Easter Candy in America Is…

Every April, the temps rise, flowers bloom and discussions about how Peeps are the worst candy that ever existed are had. And thanks to a recent survey published by RetailMeNot of the most popular Easter candies in America, we have further validation of our ragey feelings toward the chick-shaped, sugar-coated abominations.

Whether you’re hosting a traditional Easter celebration, tightly packing kids’ (and your own) Easter baskets full of candy, or you’re throwing an adult Easter egg hunt this weekend and need sweets on-hand for guests, there’s one candy you can effectively pass on: Peeps. That is, unless you live in Virginia or Tennessee and are part of the 6 percent of the population who prefer the candy, according to the survey.

As a surprise to no one, the No. 1 Easter candy is Reese’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Eggs, with 32 percent of the people polled preferring the candy over all others. Coming in at No. 2 and garnering 17 percent of the vote are Cadbury Eggs. Jelly Beans ranked third most-liked with 16 percent of the vote, and chocolate bunnies coming in fourth with 10 percent.

The best part of the survey results state that when asked if shoppers even like Peeps, nearly three-quarters gave it a hard pass. And we can only assume they gave Peeps an even harder pass when Fort Worth, Texas-based brewery, the Collective Brewing Project, teamed up last year with Lone Star Taps and Caps bar to create and subsequently release a Peeps-flavored beer.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Eggs ranked No. 1 in several states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Texas and many others. Cadbury Eggs were also popular in states like Utah, North Carolina and Maine. But, Virginia and Tennessee, what happened? Please explain your love for Peeps.
