- Melissa Joan Hart, 42, says she drinks MCT oil in her water and tea on set.
- It gives her an energy boost and has helped her lose weight.
- MCT oil is commonly used among keto dieters, but Melissa says she’s not on the keto diet.
Melissa Joan Hart, 42, just revealed a pretty major weight-loss tip: She drinks MCT oil every. single. day.
The actress appeared on PEOPLE Now where she dished about how she recently started adding a bit of the keto-friendly oil to her daily diet. “I have just started putting MCT oil to my water, which I love,” she said. She also puts the stuff in her tea on set.
She credits MCT oil for a bunch of benefits including weight loss. “I, like, lost a little bit of weight right away and like—just a few pounds—but I was able to keep it off,” she said. Melissa also said the oil gives her a bit of an energy boost and “keeps the cravings away.”

Wait, wait, wait…what is MCT oil again?
MCT, or medium-chain triglycerides, is a type of saturated fatty acids made up of caproic, caprylic, capric, and lauric acid. MCTs can be found naturally in coconut oil, palm oil, and butter, but they can also be manmade in liquid supplement form, so you can add them to coffee or smoothies.
MCTs are different from long-chain fatty acids (typically found in unsaturated fats like olive and avocado oils), since they’re metabolized by the body differently, Jill Keene, RD, previously told Women’s Health. “MCT goes straight to your liver to be metabolized, and it won’t be stored as fat—therefore, it’s quickly absorbed and provides a fast-acting energy source,” she said.
That’s also why MCT oil is such a hot commodity for keto dieters: The oil aids in ketosis (when you burn fat for energy instead of carbs) since MCTs are a more readily available energy source than long-chain fatty acids.
But Melissa says she is not on the keto diet. Apparently she was turned off from the popular diet when a doctor encouraged one of her friends to ditch it. But hey, at least she’s into (and seeing results from) of one of the keto diet’s star players.
