Jamie Lynn Spears Recalls Being the ‘Youngest Mom in the Room’ at 17

Honesty hour! Jamie Lynn Spears welcomed her first daughter, Maddie, in 2008 when she was 17 years old, and now the country singer is opening up about the experience.

“I used to be insecure at times, because I was always the youngest mom in the room,” the former Nickelodeon star, 27, told Dopple Opens a New Window. in a recent interview. “I quickly learned that being a good and competent mother has nothing to do with age. I have met some of the most wonderful, amazing moms who are anywhere from 20 years old to 50 years old, so young or old, love is all it’s really about.”

She added: “Do not compare yourself as a mother to anyone else. Each child is different, and therefore, each mother is different. … Take advice from others, but always trust your instincts and what YOUR gut is telling you more than anything.”

The Zoey 101 alum left the Nickelodeon show in 2008 after news broke that she was expecting her first child with her now-ex-fiancé, Casey Aldridge. In January, the actress denied that the hit show ended because of her teenage pregnancy, writing on Instagram that her contract was finished.

Six years after Maddie’s birth, Spears married country singer Jamie Watson. They welcomed daughter Ivey, 11 months, in April 2018.

“It was a friendship that turned into more as we spent more quality time together,” the “Sleepover” singer said about her relationship with Watson. “No big fancy story, just two people who found each other at the right time.”

With a decade between her baby’s births, the All That alum revealed how different parenting has been for her the second time around.

“If you’re questioning anything, you can Google it, which is very helpful at times, but also can cause you to have a meltdown over a simple cough because the internet said it could possibly be something horrible,” she said. “Having everything delivered so you don’t have to get your new baby out when they are sick or the weather is bad is a big win for a mom. It’s crazy how much the internet has changed things.”
