In August, the host of Homes Under the Hammer reported having to spend six hours in an A&E department after his condition got worse and worse. Speaking on GB News, the 58-year-old has described the flare-up, which spread to both his legs, as “absolutely horrid”. The BBC host warned that the debilitating condition – caused by bacteria penetrating the skin – can turn serious if not treated urgently.

In earlier reports, Martin said he was unable to get antibiotics for his flare-up after his pharmacy showed “no recognition” for the severity of the condition.

The host tweeted a picture of his foot looking swollen and painful in July, after being refused the course of antibiotics from his pharmacy due to a systematic error.

He wrote: “The chemists wouldn’t give me the antibiotics I’d been prescribed, despite seeing my leg, due to a ‘system error’ and no recognition for how serious this is.”

“Thank you so much @LoydsPharmacy so A&E 4me.”

Cellulitis is a painful skin condition that leaves the skin feeling hot and swollen.

The NHS explains: “The area usually looks red, but this may be less obvious on brown or black skin. Your skin may also be blistered, and you can also have swollen, painful glands.”

The condition, which can spread to the hands, feet, legs and eyes, is usually treated with a course of antibiotics.

“The symptoms might get worse in the first 48 hours of treatment but should then start to improve,” adds the NHS.
