Ruby Rose Opens Up About Battling Adult Acne In Emotional Instagram Post

Aussie actor Ruby Rose has taken to social media to share her experience with adult acne and call out the critics who have recently ridiculed her skin.

The 31-year-old shared a series of Instagram stories featuring her makeup free face, defending the pimples across her cheek.

“I never thought I’d see the day I’d leave my beautiful country balling [sic] my eyes out… When I was so excited to come home,” the LA-based star wrote.

“Yeah it sucks… For me, I don’t see how it’s bothering so many others? But I’m human. It happens… One side of my face is clear and the other is a mess.”

Ruby, who was in town for the ARIAs and Pitch Perfect 3 premiere, wrote that her busy schedule was no doubt to blame.

“Dermatologist says it’s from the bacteria from all the phone interviews I did for PP3 and a reaction to hotel pillow cases.”

The Orange is the New Black star is certainly not alone in her skin struggles, experts say adult-onset acne is becoming increasingly common in women in their 20s, 30s, 40s and even 50s, with one study suggesting that over half of women aged 20 to 29 are affected.

Acne is caused by excess sebum production, hair follicles clogged with skin cells, skin surface bacteria and skin inflammation, all of which are influenced by hormonal fluctuations. Lifestyle factors like stress and diet can also play a role in flare ups.

We’re giving serious props to Ruby for owning that it’s not abnormal to be battling with break outs well after high school graduation. If your skin is suffering, talk to your GP or a dermatologist about the best course of treatment for you.
