What Happened When This Guy Ran a Marathon Around His House

Runner and vlogger Elijah Orr decided to make the most of his time and space during quarantine by running a full marathon around his house. The stunt is becoming a trend for runners under stay at home orders. With many races cancelled or postponed, like this year’s Boston Marathon, runners aren’t letting it stop them from logging serious miles. British runner James Campbell ran a full marathon in his backyard, while French runner Elisha Nochomovitz ran one on his 23-foot balcony.

“With many of the usual trails closed right now, I needed a new place to go,” Orr says in the video. “There’s a small loop that goes around my house, so I thought, why not do my run there? In fact, why not do an entire marathon?”

So Orr straps on his shoes and Garmin to keep track of when he hits 26.2 miles. His goal: to complete it in under 3 hours and 30 minutes. He doesn’t just run on camera, though—Orr decided to answer questions from his viewers on-camera while he takes on the loop.

“I thought it would be a cool opportunity to not only get an interesting run in and switch it up a little bit,” he says before starting.

By mile 3.5, he’s already “so bored”. But he completes a half marathon (13.1 miles) in 1 hour 39 minutes.

At this point, his shirt is off, and he’s refueled with an RX Bar. And he talks about what keeps him motivated to keep running.

“Running is a blessing. If you’re not injured and you’re healthy enough to go for a run, that’s an honor to go run,” he says. “Whenever I feel like I don’t want to go for a run or I’m not motivated, I just think about it like that.”

And he finishes the 26.2 miles in 3 hours and 16 minutes, well below his goal, an average of a 7:30 mile.

“I hope you guys enjoyed it. I enjoyed it for sure. It definitely hurt, but that was a lot of fun,” he says.
